Melton Wool

Old Fashioned Standards (OFS) is a small local business based on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations which is now known as "Vancouver, Canada." Run and operated by women, OFS specializes in tailor made custom designs, natural fibres, and vegan water resistant materials such as oilcloth and waxed cotton.

Melton Wool is an 100% natural material that is durable, warm, and weather resistant. The history of the material goes back centuries, beginning in England, Scotland, and Wales.

Melton wool is made from sheeps wool woven into a twill formation. It is a dense yet soft material from being well fulled, a process which includes scouring and thickening (cleaning off the oils and then beating and agitating the fibres). The wool then gets napped, where the fibres get raised up and sheered closely  creating a smooth finish. With a felt-like surface Melton Wool has a strong fibre structure giving it a finished look with non-fraying edges.

In British history Melton Wool has been a symbol for both the elite as well the working class.
